Yael Herrera Helley

Project Type

Oil Painting

Portraiture, for me, is an exploration of character. I usually work from live models, using oils to build the likeness and presence of the individual. I’m especially interested in capturing not just the features, but the personality and gesture - the way someone holds themselves, the mood in their eyes. My approach to drawing is sculptural in nature; I think of it as carving form out of light and shadow. It’s about understanding structure and proportion, and using tone to reveal the image that already lives within the canvas.

About the Artist

My name is Yael Herrera Halley

Born in Mexico City in 1990, Yael’s journey as an artist is deeply rooted in observing and capturing the human form, through the intricate details of faces and bodies. With pencils charcoal, and paint, he strives to bring life to his portraits, gently experimenting with colours to add new dimensions to his work.

Beyond the realm of realism, Yael delves into the surreal, and the philosophical. Utilising inks, acrylics and oils he creates landscapes and scenes that defy the ordinary. At the heart of his creations lies a fascination with fantasy and science, an exploration of the human mind, and its profound connection to our world, society and culture.
