Flying Villages
Between 1990 and 1994, I embarked on journeys through the north and south of Iraq, documenting architectural landscapes that would later become a key inspiration for the Eye Project.
What captivated me most were the villages in the north—especially the rural ones. I spent many late evenings quietly observing their shapes, which often appeared like illuminated, mythical creatures floating in the darkness. The light spilling from inside the houses felt like a gentle, symphonic wave traveling through space.
About the Artist
Abeer El Khabet
I began painting as a child - around 8 or 10 - often in a sweltering little room, pinning my drawings to the walls and quietly reflecting on what I had made. Decades later, I still do the same. Painting continues to be a journey of discovery, where surprises - both planned and accidental - lead me closer to understanding myself.
At 19, I entered the Art Academy, and years later, I pursued my Master’s degree in London at the age of 40. My life across multiple countries has shaped not only my worldview but also my artistic voice. It challenged me to question every thought, every belief, and through that process, I developed Reverseism - a personal philosophy and concept that runs through my work.
Alongside my studio practice, I provide guidance to emerging artists and have developed a master program at my gallery to help new talents explore and pursue their own artistic paths. I believe in nurturing creativity as both a practice and a way of life.
My paintings are not just about what you see - they are invitations to reflect, to feel, and to find something of yourself in the unexpected.
