Mariia Amarii
Project Type
Oil Paintings
Mariia’s current project is a series of large-scale oil paintings centred around the idea of portals - gateways between inner and outer worlds, between memory and possibility. Each painting portrays a unique female figure as a symbol of transformation, surrounded by elements of nature that reflect resilience, vulnerability, awakening, and hope. Through these works, she invites viewers to engage with multiple dimensions of self - to see not only who they are, but who they were, and who they are becoming.

About the Artist
Mariia Amarii
Mariia Amarii is a Ukrainian artist currently living and working in the Netherlands. Art has always been her way of touching something deeper - both in the world and within herself. She graduated from the Lviv National Academy of Arts with a Master’s degree in Glass Art and has worked extensively with various glass techniques. Over time, her creative journey led her to iconography, where she began creating icons in the Byzantine style.
After relocating to the Netherlands due to the war, Amarii found a new voice in oil painting. This medium became a powerful tool for expressing personal transformation, emotion, and reflection. Her artistic path is one of continuous evolution - from sacred tradition to deeply personal, expressive works that embody resilience and inner truth.
At the heart of her work is a deep exploration of the human experience, particularly through the image of the woman as a growing, regenerating being. A recurring motif in her paintings is the body as a temple, holding within it a delicate, light-filled inner self - a quiet presence that says: “I am the temple. And I am the one who lives within it.” Natural elements such as plants and vines often appear, symbolizing rebirth, healing, and growth.
Alongside her personal practice, Amarii also leads art workshops for children and adults, guiding others in reconnecting with their own creative power. For her, art is a path to presence, healing, self-development, and a deeper understanding of the self.
